Times are changing – and the world of wine is no different. Falstaff Switzerland has identified five trends of particular interest to wine lovers in 2025.

Light instead of heavy

This trend has been emerging for several years now: Rosé and white wines are on the rise, while reds are increasingly in decline. This development has also had an impact on the pricing of white wines, which has been going up for years. The sparkling wine segment will also continue to boom in 2025. Bottoms up!

Back to the classics

Less and less red wine is being consumed – but when it is, people are turning to the classics rather than freaky new creations. Classic producers and labels from renowned wine regions are recapturing the imagination. A great boon for lovers of classic vintages.

No and Low

Conscious alcohol consumption is the name of the game these days, and the number of non-alcoholic or low-alcohol wines is growing year by year. However, they have never been as popular as they are now. This is mainly due to the fact that non-alcoholic products are becoming more and more intriguing and are no longer mediocre alternatives. Non-alcoholic sparkling wines have become particularly impressive in recent years.

New sustainable grape varieties

Organic farming is no longer practiced solely for ideological reasons, but above all for quality. As part of the sustainability trend, the proportion of fungus-resistant varietals will continue to increase. These varieties not only cope better with the new climactic challenges, but are also economically attractive. By cultivating them, the use of pesticides can be significantly reduced. This saves time and money.

Declining consumption – falling prices?

Wine consumption is declining worldwide. In the long-booming Chinese market, sales have halved in just five years – leaving most wine stores overstocked. It is quite possible that this trend will further lower prices for the world's great wines. In particular, collectors should keep an eye on the price of Burgundy.
