Marchesi Antinori
Napa Valley

In order to strengthen its presence in Napa Valley and promote the unique terroir of the Coombsville AVA, Marchesi Antinori's Stag's Leap Wine Cellars have taken over Arcadia Vineyard with the goal of maintaining Warren Winiarski's legacy.

The renowned Stag's Leap Wine Cellars of Napa Valley have just announced the reacquisition of Arcadia Vineyard, a move that marks a new phase for the company. The historic Arcadia Vineyard was founded by the legendary Warren Winiarski, a prominent figure in the wine world who recently passed away at the age of 95. This aquisition makes Arcadia part of the Stag's Leap estate again, which is now controlled by Italy's legendary Antinori family, further consolidating the master winemakers's presence in Napa Valley.

Enhancing Coombsville's terroir

Juan Munoz-Oca,COO of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, was enthusiastic about the acquisition: "We are happy to welcome Arcadia Vineyard to our estate. The unique terroir of the Coombsville AVA will allow us to continue to express Warren Winiarski's vision while maintaining the high standards that the Antinori family has always pursued."

The 54.6-acre vineyard in the foothills of Mount George on the eastern slope of Napa Valley is ideal for producing high-quality wines. As many as 34 hectares are dedicated to premium varieties, including 23.9 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.9 hectares of Chardonnay and 1.2 hectares of Merlot. The area's favorable soil and climate helps give wines a unique elegance and complexity, perfectly reflecting the essence of the terroir.

A historic connection

Arcadia Vineyard is closely linked to vintner Warren Winiarski, who acquired the property in 1996 from Austin Hills of the Grgich Hills Estate. The name "Arcadia" was chosen with care: in Greek mythology, Arcadia was emblematic for a place of unspoiled nature and harmony. A great nature lover , Winiarski was an champion of environmental conservation, as evidenced by his donation of a portion of the property to the Land Trust of Napa County.

Even after Winiarski sold Stag's Leap Wine Cellars in 2007, his family retained ownership of Arcadia Vineyard, continuing to supply grapes to the winery. Now, with the vineyard back under the direct management of Stag's Leap, Arcadia has come full circle, restoring a key part of the winery's identity.

Piero Antinori, president of the Marchesi Antinori, stressed the emotional and strategic importance of this acquisition: "Warren Winiarski has always had a deep connection with Arcadia Vineyard. When he sold Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, he decided to retain ownership of this vineyard, recognizing its great potential. Today, we are happy to be able to reunite it with the original estate, thus uniting past and future."

Renzo Cotarella, CEO of Marchesi Antinori, added: "This acquisition allows us to move closer to our goal of producing Stag's Leap Wine Cellars wines using 100 percent of our own grapes, as we do for all of our Antinori wines. This is an important step toward the highest quality and authenticity."

With the acquisition of Arcadia Vineyard, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars continues to strengthen its commitment to excellence. This step marks a key milestone for the winery, which continues on its path of tradition and innovation, consolidating its leading role in the world of wine, always guided by the vision of the Antinori family.
